Baby Monkey Finds a Mirror… and Makes a New (Very Confused) Friend!

While swinging through the jungle one bright afternoon, the baby monkey spotted something shiny resting near a rock. Curious as ever, it bounced over to investigate. There, propped up against a tree, was a smooth, flat object that reflected light like a pool of still water—but it wasn’t water at all

The baby monkey peered closer… and froze.
Someone was staring back at it!
Big round eyes, fluffy ears, a wiggly nose—it was another monkey!

The baby monkey squeaked and jumped backward, tail puffed up in surprise. But the other monkey did the exact same thing! It tilted its head… so did the stranger. It stuck out its tongue… and the monkey in the shiny thing copied it perfectly.
Is this… magic?” the baby monkey whispered.

Determined to figure it out, the baby monkey tried everything. It danced, waved its arms, even made silly faces—but the monkey in the mirror did every move exactly the same. Eventually, the baby monkey began to giggle. “This new friend is really good at copying!” it thought, clapping its tiny hands in amusement.

Soon, the whole troop came to see what the fuss was about. One by one, they peeked into the mirror—and each time, they jumped in surprise at their reflections. The baby monkey showed them how to play with their “mirror twins,” and before long, they were all giggling and making silly faces side by side.

That evening, the baby monkey gave one last wave to the mysterious friend in the mirror. It didn’t understand how the shiny surface worked, but it knew one thing: that monkey looked fun, just like it. As the sun set and the mirror glowed with golden light, the baby monkey walked away smiling, thinking, “I make really funny friends—even if they’re a little… backwards.”
